Benabderrahmane’s dual function means that Algeria will have to do without its prime minister and finance minister for at least a week
ALGIERS, July 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Algerian Prime Minister Ayman Benabderrahmane, who was appointed to this position on June 30, has been infected with coronavirus.
“Prime Minister Ayman Benabderrahmane tested positive for coronavirus on July 10. In accordance with medical instructions, he has been quarantined for seven days and then will be tested again,” the government’s press service said in a statement.
While in quarantine, the prime minister will continue working online.
Benabderrahmane is placed in the self isolation for a period of seven days in accordance with medical guidelines, carring out his work at home, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office.
He is also due to undergo another screening test at the end of the self isolation.
Algeria has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent days, with confirmed cases rising from around 200 a day last month to more than 800.
The total number cases have reached to 144,483 in Algeria while death toll has surged to 3,811 since the pandemic hit the country.
More than 100,000 people have so far recovered from the virus. — NNN-AGENCIES
