NEW DELHI, Jul 7 (NNN-PTI) – India’s popular film-actor, Dilip Kumar, died at the age of 98 today, after a long and protracted illness.
Dilip Kumar breathed his last at 07:30 hours today, at a hospital in Mumbai. He is survived by his wife, Saira Banu, a veteran actor herself.
Announcing his demise, Dilip Kumar’s family friend, Faisal Farooqui, tweeted from the actor’s official Twitter handle — “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Kumar, a few minutes ago.”
The legendary actor played prominent roles in several classic Hindi films in the 1950s and 1960s. He was honoured with a couple of India’s highest civilian awards in 1991 and 2015.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Kumar’s demise. “Dilip Kumar will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP,” tweeted Modi.– NNN-PTI
