S.Korea Reports 1,212 More COVID-19 Cases, Highest In Over Six Months

SEOUL, Jul 7 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea reported 1,212 more COVID-19 cases as of midnight, compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 162,753.

The daily caseload rose sharply from 746 the previous day, marking the highest in over six months since Dec 25, 2020. The daily average caseload for the past week was 827.

The continued triple-digit growth was attributable to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province, as well as, imported cases.

Of the new cases, 577 were Seoul residents and 357 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Forty-four cases were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 10,321.

One more death was confirmed, bringing the death toll to 2,033. The total fatality rate stood at 1.25 percent.

A total of 740 more patients were discharged from quarantine, after making full recovery, pulling up the combined number to 151,500. The total recovery rate was 93.09 percent.

The country tested over 10.76 million people, among whom 10,461,001 tested negative for the virus and 142,748 are being checked.

Since the mass vaccination was launched on Feb 26, the country has administered vaccines to a total of 15,439,910 people with 5,463,292 fully vaccinated.– NNN-YONHAP
