BRASILIA, July 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Brazil registered 27,783 new COVID-19 cases and 830 new deaths in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.
Brazil’s national death toll now stands at 524,417 while the new infections raised the total caseload to 18,769,808, the ministry said.
Brazil has the world’s second highest COVID-19 death toll, after the United States, and the third largest caseload, following the United States and India.
The South American country, which is experiencing a new wave of infections with hospitals overwhelmed by patients, has a mortality rate of 249.5 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, the ministry said.
So far, more than 103.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, and over 27 million people have received two jabs, it added.
SANTIAGO: Chile reported another 3,368 cases of COVID-19 and 130 more deaths from the disease, for a total of 1,569,784 infections and 33,103 deaths, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.
The ministry stated that 2,823 people were currently hospitalized in intensive care units in the country, including 2,363 on ventilators.
Chilean Minister of Health Enrique Paris explained that in the last seven days, there was a decrease in cases of COVID-19 in 13 of the 16 regions in the country.
In contrast, in the northern regions of Antofagasta and Atacama, there was an increase in cases, as well as in the southern region of Magallanes.
Paris stressed that everyone must “continue to be rigorous in self-care,” since “together with vaccination, the ventilation of spaces, the use of masks, and handwashing are the essential and proven measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
BUENOS AIRES: Argentina reported 9,000 more cases of COVID-19 and another 310 deaths from the disease, for a total of 4,535,473 infections and 95,904 deaths, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.
The percentage of occupancy of intensive care unit beds is 64.9 percent nationwide and 62.2 percent in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, said the ministry.
Argentina is now working to stop the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus, with five confirmed cases.
The government has placed limits on Argentine residents entering from abroad, with only 600 entry permits given out per day through the Ezeiza International Airport.
A total of 22,382,746 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 have been applied through Argentina’s national vaccination program. –NNN-AGENCIES
