Bangladesh Records Highest Daily COVID-19 Deaths As Outbreak Worsens Amid Strict Lockdown

DHAKA, Jul 5 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh yesterday recorded the highest single-day deaths from COVID-19 at 153, bringing the overall death toll to 15,065, said the country’s Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The official data showed 8,661 more confirmed cases were recorded in the country, raising the total tally to 944,917.

A total of 29,879 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, as of 8:00 a.m. local time yesterday, across the country.

The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in the country has risen to 833,897, including 4,698 new recoveries from the pandemic yesterday, said the DGHS.

According to the official data, currently COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh stands at 1.59 percent and recovery rate has fallen to 88.25 percent. The infections have been rising in Bangladesh since last month.

To curb the virus transmission, Bangladesh on Thursday, entered a one-week strict COVID-19 lockdown and army personnel have been deployed to patrol alongside civilian forces to maintain law and order.
