NEW DELHI, Jun 26 (NNN-PTI) – More than 50 cases of Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 virus have been detected in India so far, even as fear of a third wave of the pandemic has gripped the nation.
Besides, two deaths have been reported from the Delta Plus variant, said media reports. Only last week, the central government designated it as a “variant of concern.”
Director of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Sujeet Singh, said yesterday that, over 50 cases of Delta Plus variant have been recorded in 18 districts of India.
However, according to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General, Dr Balram Bhargava, even though India has registered some cases of the Delta Plus variant, they have been “very localised.”
Yesterday, India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 30,134,445, as 51,667 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours.– NNN-PTI
