TOKYO, Jun 23 (NNN-NHK) – Japanese Foreign Ministry official, Takeo Mori, was appointed by the Japanese government as vice foreign minister yesterday, local media reported.
Mori, 60, will now be the top bureaucrat at the ministry, taking over from Takeo Akiba.
Prior to being handed the senior deputy minister portfolio in 2018, Mori served as a minister at the Japanese Embassy in Washington, and director general of the ministry’s North American Affairs Bureau.
Director general of the Foreign Policy Bureau, Shigeo Yamada, 56, was selected to become Mori’s successor, as senior deputy minister for foreign affairs, with Yamada’s empty position filled by Masataka Okano, 57, director general of the International Legal Affairs Bureau.– NNN-NHK
