Tiger Found Killed In India’s National Park

NEW DELHI, Jun 19 (NNN-PTI) – A carcass of a male tiger, with bullet wounds, was found yesterday, at the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, in the north-eastern state of Assam, officials said.

Forest officials said, the tiger was killed in accidental firing, at the hands of forest guards inside the reserve.

“A carcass was found this morning (yesterday morning) by forest personnel near Japoripathar, in the Karuabari area. On inquiry it was found that the tiger died due to a bullet wound, suspected to be (from) accidental firing, while trying to scare away the tiger from public area,” a statement from the forest department said.

According to officials, further details on the incident were awaited.

The age of the tiger was believed to be around 10 years.

Reports said, this is the third instance of a tiger carcass being found from the national park recently.

Earlier this month, the carcass of a four-year-old male tiger was found. Prior to it, in Feb, carcass of a female tiger cub was found.

Kaziranga has a tiger population of 111, as per a 2017 census, reports said.

As per the latest survey conducted in 2018, India has an estimated 2,967 tigers.– NNN-PTI
