DHAKA, June 15 (NNN-BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said Bangladesh will resume the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign on June 19.
“Those who completed registration will get priority to receive the jabs during the vaccination drive,” he told a religious programme at Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) here.
Maleque said the infection rate of coronavirus has been increasing sharply in different border districts and it may spread in other parts of the country including Dhaka city.
He urged the people of the country to follow health rules to protect themselves from the deadly disease.
According to the DGHS, administering the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine was suspended on April 26. After suspending vaccination of the first dose of coronavirus jabs, administering of second dose continued to complete two doses of vaccination.
As many as 7,248,829 people have so far been registered for receiving the inoculation. On Feb 7, the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign began with spontaneous participation of all levels of people for receiving vaccines from 1,055 designated hospitals.
After launching the vaccination campaign, 5,820,015 people received the first shot of COVID-19 vaccines while 4,250,167 got second doses of inoculation.
Bangladesh Monday reported 3,050 COVID-19 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 54 lives.
“The tally of infections has surged to 829,972 as 3,050 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours . . . 54 people died of COVID-19 during the period,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement.
A total of 54 COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 13,172.
The recovery count rose to 768,830 after another 2,564 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day. — NNN-BSS
