HANOI, Jun 13 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam reported 261 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, including 259 locally transmitted and two imported, bringing the total tally to 10,241, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.
Among the community cases, 246 were reported in quarantine facilities or lockdown areas. In terms of localities, 125 were detected in the northern hotspot, Bac Giang province, 84 in the southern Ho Chi Minh City and 34 in north Bac Ninh province.
Most of the cases were contacts of previously confirmed cases or linked to the clusters of infections in the localities.
Nationwide, as many as 3,827 patients have so far recovered, up 23 from Friday, and nearly 188,700 people are being quarantined and monitored.
The health ministry also announced that a 64-year-old patient with severe underlying conditions has died, bringing the total number of deaths related to the virus in the country to 58.
Also yesterday, the ministry approved the Pfizer vaccine for emergency use, making it the fourth COVID-19 vaccine licensed in the country, after AstraZeneca, Sputnik V and China’s Sinopharm.
As of yesterday, Vietnam registered a total of 8,609 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 7,039 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late Apr, according to the health ministry.– NNN-VNA
