YAOUNDÉ, June 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Cameroonians are up in arms against the new United States ambassador to the country because of his sexual orientation.

Christoper Lamora’s appointment though announced in April by the Biden government is now generating heat in the Central African country after it was revealed that the ambassador is gay.

A local media portal reported that Lamora is married to a husband because he is the wife in their relationship.

“Christopher J. Lamora is an advocate and member of LGBT communication. He presided over the LGBT pride month in Ghana where he was acting as the US Deputy Chief of Mission,” Kampii Productions Daily reported.

Cameroon recently arrested a number of same-sex activists in the capital Yaounde. Two people have been jailed for involvement in same-sex activity which is a criminal offence under the law.

A large cross section of citizens are incensed that the US will deploy a gay rights activist to a country where the practice is banned.

One journalist Claudia Nsono posted on Twitter that citizens are wondering if the US will also accept a polygamous envoy as Cameroonian ambassador to Washington DC.

In 2019, the Zambian government pushed for the recall of the US ambassador, Daniel Foote, after he made comments against the Zambian laws which expressly criminalize same-sex relationships. — NNN-AGENCIES
