Fiji’s National Carrier To Operate Special Fights To Take Foreigners Home

SUVA, Jun 10 (NNN-PIN) – Fiji Airways will operate a number of special flights from Sunday to June 30, to enable foreigners and approved persons to depart the country and return to their homes.

In a statement today, Fiji Airways said, the special flights are approved by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Civil Aviation, and will replace previously scheduled international passenger repatriation flights, that are now cancelled.

Fiji’s national carrier said, passengers wishing to travel on these flights are requested to check flight availability and passenger requirements for travel, on website.

Meanwhile, it said, the domestic airline, Fiji Link, is working through the requirements of the domestic repatriation protocols by the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport.

Fiji Airways said, once these are finalised, domestic repatriation flights in line with strict government protocols will be announced.

It added that, dedicated freighter services will continue to ensure that vital export and import supply chains for Fiji remain intact.

The Ministry of Health announced 35 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 624.

As of today, 38 percent of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services’ target population of 587,651 in Fiji, have received their first doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ministry of Health confirmed a total of 220,437 people have received the first doses, while 4,773 people across the island nation have received their second doses.– NNN-PIN
