ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan reached a milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination drive yesterday with the 10 millionth dose administered to a person at a ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the country’s National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Asad Umar, said that, the country is aiming to give vaccine doses to 70 million people by the end of this year.
Umar said, about 300,000 people are registering themselves for vaccination every day, and the trend of being vaccinated is increasing in the country.
The official said, a decline in new cases has also been witnessed due to the guidelines issued by the NCOC, and the measures taken by authorities to control the disease spread.
He said that a further ease in restrictions will be made, if the downward trend in new cases continues.
Pakistan confirmed 1,118 new cases on Tuesday, with a 2.55-percent positivity rate, the NCOC said yesterday.
The NCOC said, the country’s number of overall cases rose to 936,131, which include 869,691 recoveries since Feb of last year, when the first case was reported in Pakistan.
There is a total of 44,987 active cases across the country, including 3,024 patients who are in critical condition.
According to the NCOC, the pandemic killed 77 people during the last 24 hours, increasing the overall death toll to 21,453.– NNN-APP
