Gosiame Thamara Sithole, record breaking mom
PRETORIA, June 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A South African mother has given birth to 10 children at a hospital in the capital Pretoria, local news portal Pretoria News have reported.
The development means that 37-year-old Gosiame Thamara Sithole has broken the world record for number of babies at a single birth.
Decuplets is the term given to ten twins. Gosiame’s set are made up of seven boys and three girls.
Doctors had initially stated that she will deliver six children and later increased the tally by two but to their surprise she delivered 10 kids all via cesarean section 29 weeks into her pregnancy.
With the feat, she beats the record held by Malian Halima Cissé who gave birth to nine children in Morocco last month.
Her husband Teboho Tsotetsi expressed his excitement at his new family in an interview with local media outlets: “It’s seven boys and three girls. She was seven months and seven days pregnant.
“I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much,” he said.
Before Malian mother Halima Cissé’s nine children delivered in Morocco last month, the record holder of the most children delivered at a single birth to survive was reportedly American Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight children in 2009. Her octuplets were conceived through in vitro fertilisation. — NNN-AGENCIES
