Two Drones Shot Down Over Air Base In Western Iraq

BAGHDAD, Jun 7 (NNN-NINA) – Two drones were shot down yesterday, over a military airbase, housing U.S.-led coalition forces, in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, the Iraqi military said.

The attack took place at 12:30 a.m. local time (2130 GMT Saturday), and the air defence system at Ayn al-Asad Air Base, intercepted and shot down the drones, the media office of the Iraqi Operations Command said, in a brief statement.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, yet.

Ayn al-Asad Air Base, formerly known as al-Qadisiyah, is located some 190 km north-west of Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.

The Iraqi military bases housing U.S. troops across Iraq and the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, have been frequently targeted by mortar and rocket attacks.– NNN-NINA
