BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 23 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei’s Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI), is working on a new law, to protect individuals’ personal data, which will apply to the private sector in the sultanate, covering both commercial and non-commercial organisations.
According to the Borneo Bulletin daily yesterday, AITI, as the Interim Data Office, is mulling over the new data protection law, which is designed to help businesses ensure that personal data is secure and properly protected.
AITI is looking into global best practices and conducting consultations, to ensure that implementation is tailored to the local context, the report said.
The law will clarify the obligations of businesses, with respect to the collection, use, disclosure or other processing of individuals’ personal data, the rights of individuals, in relation to the processing of their personal data, and various matters relating to the administration and enforcement of the law.– NNN-ANN
