LIMA, March 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Peruvian Government reaffirms its support for Interim President Juan Guaido and his fight to restore democracy in Venezuela, Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio said.
Likewise, the cabinet member indicated his nation condemns any action that may threaten Guaido’s freedom.
Guaido, 35, arrived in Caracas on Monday, where he was welcomed by European and Latin American ambassadors who joined him in his return to Venezuela, as it was feared he would be detained for disregarding a court order forbidding him from leaving the Bolivarian country.
He returned to his country after having visited Colombia, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Ecuador, which had started on Feb22 in the Colombian border city of Cucuta.
This took place within the framework of a failed attempt to deliver U.S.-sponsored humanitarian aid in Venezuela.
As is known, over 50 nations have recognized him as the Interim President of Venezuela.
On Jan 4, Lima Group announced it would not recognize the legitimacy of Maduro’s new government. The Organization of American States (OAS) adopted the same stance.
Thus, Peru banned the entry of Maduro and 99 members of his regime —including their relatives— to its territory.
It also withdrew its Charge d’Affaires from Venezuela and deemed the Maduro administration as a dictatorship. — NNN-ANDINA
