NEW DELHI, May 17 (NNN-PTI) – The ongoing COVID-19 lockdown in New Delhi has been extended by a further week, till May 24, Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said yesterday.
Kejriwal told the media that COVID-19 cases are showing a downward trend in Delhi and people were recovering from the infection.
“We don’t want the gains that we achieved in the past days to go in vain, so we are extending the lockdown for one more week,” Kejriwal said.
The national capital has been under lockdown to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic since Apr 19.
Yesterday morning, the health ministry said, the city recorded 6,430 new cases and 337 deaths, in the past 24 hours. A total of 311,170 new cases and 4,077 deaths were registered in the past 24 hours across the country.
India is witnessing a resurgence in COVID-19 cases, and the second wave of the pandemic caused a shortage of oxygen and essential medicines in the country’s hospitals.
Some states have flagged the federal government about the shortage of COVID-19 vaccine stocks.– NNN-PTI
