DHAKA, May 10 (NNN-BSS) – Paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) soldiers, have been deployed in major Bangladesh ferry terminals, to curb the exodus of home-goers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, ahead of Muslim Eid festival, slated to be celebrated on or around May 14.
BGB Spokesperson, Shariful Islam, told journalists that the paramilitary soldiers were deployed at Mawa and Shimulia ferry terminals, in Munshiganj district, on the outskirts of Dhaka, and Paturia ferry terminal in Manikganj district, some 63 km north-west of capital city, to control the rush of holidaymakers.
Rush of Eid-home-goers has been prevailing in Bangladeshi cities and towns ahead of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr festival, despite the fact that the government asked all to stay at their present locations, to limit the spread of the COVID-19.
In the backdrop of a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh in recent months, the Bangladeshi government is emphasising wearing masks and social distancing in public, to contain the spread of the pandemic.
Bangladesh recorded 1,386 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 56 new deaths yesterday, making its total tally at 773,513 with 11,934 deaths, the Directorate General of Health Services said.– NNN-BSS
