KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) – The Malaysian Health Ministry, yesterday recorded 4,498 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, a three-month high of daily cases, bringing the total tally to 432,425.
It is the first time the country reported more than 4,000 cases in 24 hours, since early Feb this year.
Health Ministry Director-General, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said in a press statement that, five of the new cases were imported and 4,493 were local transmissions.
An additional 22 deaths were reported from the pandemic, bringing the death toll to 1,632.
During the past day, 3,449 patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 396,004 or 91.6 percent of all cases.
Of the existing 34,789 active cases, 372 are being treated in intensive care units with 211 of them needing assisted breathing.– NNN-BERNAMA
