NEW DELHI, May 5 (NNN-PTI) – Eight Asiatic lions have tested positive for COVID-19, at a zoo in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, officials said.
According to officials, the infected lions were recovering well, and analysis of samples revealed the infection was not caused by a COVID-19 variant virus.
The infected lions have been isolated and due care and necessary treatment are provided to them.
“All the eight lions have responded well to treatment and recovering. They are behaving normally and eating well. Preventive measures are already in place for all zoo staff, and the zoo has been closed to visitors to avoid minimal external contact,” the federal ministry of environment, forest and climate change said.
The ministry said, there was no evidence that animals could transmit the disease to humans.
The Indian health ministry, this morning said, 382,315 new cases and 3,780 related deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, across the country.– NNN-PTI
