Indonesia Bans Land, Air, Water Travels During Eid Al-Fitr

JAKARTA, May 2 (NNN-XINHUA) – Indonesia issued a letter of prohibition on travels using land, air and water transportation means, from May 6 to May 17, to curb the pandemic, during the Islamic post-fasting festival of Eid al-Fitr, the Transportation Ministry said.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Adita Irawati, the policy applies to passenger cars, buses, ships and airplanes.

“This policy is enforced in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Irawati said.

Cases and deaths of COVID-19 used to rise sharply after long holidays.

The ban has exemption for people, including those on medical services, state duties and repatriation, Irawati said.
