Singapore Reports 24 New COVID-19 Cases

SINGAPORE, May 1 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 24 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 61,145.

Of the new cases, 15 are imported cases and nine are community cases.

Yesterday, 13 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 60,751 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, the ministry said.

There are currently 113 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in critical condition, in the intensive care unit.

Furthermore, 251 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well, but still test positive for COVID-19. Altogether 30 people died from complications.

Minister for Health, Gan Kim Yong, said, Singapore saw a worrying trend of increasing number of locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in past weeks.

“We will continue to aggressively test and draw a wide ring around the cases, so as to minimise the risk of further spread,” said the minister.

“We will further tighten our border measures, given the sustained increase in cases reported in the regions around Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka,” said Gan.

In addition, starting from 11:59 p.m. local time (midnight), travellers with recent travel history to Thailand will no longer be able to opt out of serving their 14-day Stay Home Notice (SHN), at dedicated SHN facilities, the MOH said.– NNN-CNA
