RAMALLAH, Palestine, Mar 5 (NNN-WAFA) – The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), slammed the US for closing its consulate in Jerusalem.
“The closure of the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem and merging it with its embassy in Israel is a violation of the resolutions of international legitimacy that Washington contributed to drafting it,” an official PLO press statement said.
It added that “the peace process has to be revived throughout an international peace conference, attended by the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.”
In light of the closure of the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem, the PLO decided to carry on with its decision of stopping political ties with the U.S. administration and its representatives.
The Palestinian Authority is boycotting the U.S. since the declaration of U.S. President, Donald Trump, in Dec, 2017, which considered Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved his country’s embassy to Jerusalem in May last year.
Since Trump’s declaration, the Palestinians are calling for a new international mechanism to sponsor the peace talk with Israel, which stopped in 2014, after the U.S. sponsored it for nine months without reaching any breakthrough.– NNN-WAFA
