SUBANG, Malaysia, March 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, flew in to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) airbase here this evening to begin a two-day visit to Malaysia during which His Majesty will have talks with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad under the Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Annual Leaders’ Consultation framework.
The sultan, who was accompanied by a 19-member delegation of ministers and government officers, was welcomed at the airport by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who had piloted the special aircraft himself, inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by two officers and 24 men of the First Battalion Royal Rangers Regiment.
Tomorrow, His Majesty is scheduled to have a four-eyed discussion with Dr Mahathir in Putrajaya, their first talks under the framework of the Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Annual Leaders’ Consultation since Dr Mahathir become the seventh prime minister in May last year.
The sultan is also scheduled to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam on the Movement of Prisoners before a luncheon in His Majesty’s honour hosted by Dr Mahathir and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, at Seri Perdana.
In the evening, His Majesty is scheduled to attend a programme with students of Brunei Darussalam in Malaysia at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The sultan is scheduled to return to Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday.
