3 civilians killed, 7 injured as militants storm bazaar in N. Afghanistan

TALUQAN (Afghanistan), March 4 (NNN-Xinhua) — Taliban militants stormed a major bazaar in the northern Takhar province on Monday and so far three civilians have been killed and seven others injured, a local Afghan official said.

The official told Xinhua that the Taliban outfit launched massive offensive on the bazaar of Yangi Qala district around 8 a.m. local time to overcome the city, but security forces retaliated, triggering a gun battle which has resulted in the death of three civilians and injury of seven others.

Meantime, provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir confirmed the Taliban offensive, but said the militants’ attack had been repulsed and the situation was under control.

However, the spokesman admitted that two civilians had been killed and seven others sustained injuries during the firefight.

Taliban militants have not commented on the attack. — NNN-XINHUA
