KANDAHAR, Apr 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Four civilians were killed in an improvised bomb blast in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar last night, local police confirmed today.
“The victims, including a woman and two children, were members of a family. The blast which occurred in Zartali locality of Shah Wali Kot district, also destroyed their vehicle,” provincial police spokesman, Jamal Barakzai, said.
Relatives of the victims were notified by the district police, he said.
Militants in Afghanistan have been using homemade improvised explosive devices (IEDs), to make roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
Afghan civilians continue to bear the brunt of armed conflicts, as more than 2,950 civilians were killed and over 5,540 others wounded, due to fighting in 2020, according to the country’s human rights commission.
Of the casualties, 330 women and 565 children were killed in separate incidents in 2020, according to the commission.– NNN-AGENCIES
