NEW DELHI, Apr 14 (NNN-PTI) – A senior Indian health official, yesterday said, the ongoing second wave of COVID-19, crossed the previous highest spike, and the upward trend of the infections was a cause for concern.
A senior federal health ministry official, Rajesh Bhushan, said, the trend in India’s COVID-19 cases trajectory in the second wave was “worrying.”
“Previous highest surge has already been crossed and the trend is going upward, so, that is a cause for worry and that is something we continuously share with states,” Bushan said.
He said 53 federal government teams were helping district administration which are showing a surge in cases, in tackling the pandemic.
India yesterday reported 161,736 new cases and 879 more deaths, taking the total to 13,689,453 and the death toll to 171,058.
According to the ministry, five states, namely Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, cumulatively account for 68.85 percent of India’s total active cases.
“Maharashtra alone accounts for 44.78 percent of the total active caseload of the country,” the ministry said.– NNN-PTI
