CAIRO, Apr 13 (NNN-MENA) – Arab League (AL) Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, discussed with visiting Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, means of settling regional disputes.
The two officials exchanged points of views on several international and regional issues, and ways of reaching a political settlement for the ongoing crisis in the Arab region, the statement said.
Aboul-Gheit said that interventions will prolong and complicate regional disputes, reiterating the importance of boosting political settlement in Syria, Yemen, and Libya.
He urged the Russian side to continue its positive role, in solving the Syrian crisis in a way that meets the aspirations of the citizens and preserves the unity of their land.
Earlier in another meeting with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, Lavrov said, his country “backs the return of Syria to its seat in the AL, in the coming period.”
Shoukry agreed that it is important for Syria to return to the pan-Arab body and restore its vital regional role in strengthening Arab security.– NNN-MENA
