NEW DELHI, Apr 10 (NNN-PTI) – A fresh high of 145,384 new COVID-19 cases were registered in the past 24 hours in India, taking the country’s tally to 13,205,926, according to the official data, released by the federal health ministry today.
It was the fifth time within this week and the fourth consecutive day that more than 100,000 new cases were reported in India.
As many as 794 deaths took place since yesterday morning, taking the total death toll to 168,436.
There are still 1,046,631 active cases in the country, while 11,990,859 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment.
There was an increase of 67,023 active cases during the previous 24 hours, out of which the maximum number of 13,301 cases were reported from the south-western state of Maharashtra.
The number of daily active cases has been on the rise over the past few days, as another wave of COVID-19 looms large in India.
In Jan, the number of daily cases had come down to below 10,000.
Over 98 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 across India since the country kicked off the mass inoculation drive on Jan 16.
As many as 255,214,803 tests have been conducted till yesterday, out of which 1,173,219 tests were conducted yesterday alone, according to the latest data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The national capital Delhi, one of the most COVID-19 affected places in the country, witnessed over 8,500 new cases and 39 more deaths through yesterday. A total of 11,196 people died in the national capital, according to Delhi’s health department.– NNN-PTI
