Syria, Iraq Discuss Means Of  Activating Parliamentary Cooperation

AMMAN, Jordan, Mar 3 (NNN-SANA) – Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Hammoudeh Sabbagh, discussed with Speaker of Iraq’s Council of Representatives, Mohammed al-Halbousi, means to activate joint parliamentary work and parliamentary cooperation to further boost relations between the two countries.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 29th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in Amman.

Sabbagh affirmed that Syria and Iraq are today facing a common enemy, which is represented in terrorism and that Syria will soon declare its triumph over Takfiri terrorism and it is able to face the embargo and the coercive unilateral economic measures imposed on it.

“Syria has always been open to all the Arab countries and it has always stood by them in times of crises,” Sabbagh said.

For his part, Speaker of Iraq’s Council of Representatives underlined the deep-rooted historic relations binding the two countries and peoples, affirming keenness on establishing the best relations with Syria.

He highly appreciated Syria’s stance, which was represented in hosting the displaced Iraqi people during the crisis, which Iraq passed through earlier, wishing that security and stability will prevail in the country.

Al-Halbousi called for unifying the efforts towards issues of mutual interest, on top of the battle against Takfiri terrorism.

Earlier, Sabbagh arrived in the Jordanian capital to take part in  29th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, under the theme: “Jerusalem, Eternal Capital of Palestine.”– NNN-SANA
