S. Korea’s Imported Car Sale Logs Double-Digit Increase In March

SEOUL, Apr 5 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea’s imported car sale logged a double-digit increase last month, due to demand for German luxury models, industry data showed today.

The number of imported vehicles sold here was 27,297 in March, up 34.4 percent from a year earlier, according to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA).

German automaker, Mercedes-Benz, ranked first, with the sale of 7,597 vehicles, followed by BMW with the sale of 6,012 units.

Audi came next with the sale of 2,737 cars, and Volkswagen sold 1,628 vehicles here last month.

The number of European brands sold here was 22,240 in March, accounting for 81.5 percent of the total. The figures for Japanese and U.S. models were 1,737 and 3,320, respectively.

During the Jan-Mar quarter, 71,908 imported vehicles were sold domestically, up 31.5 percent from the same quarter of last year.– NNN-YONHAP
