YANGON, Myanmar, Mar 3 (NNN-MNA) – The Myanmar government has returned 1,410 acres (571 hectares) of confiscated farmlands to 355 farmers, in Myanmar’s southern Ayeyawaddy region, according to the Central Committee for Scrutinising Confiscated Farmlands, Sunday.
A handover ceremony was held on Saturday in Einme township in the region, on the occasion of Peasants Day.
Vice President, U Henry Van Thio, who is also the committee’s chairman, said, the assistance has been provided for farmers whose lands had been confiscated and the rights of the farmers would be protected under the Law of Protection of Farmers Rights and Enhancement of their Benefits.
Myanmar is an agriculture-based country and Ayeyawaddy region is considered as a rice bowl of the country.
The government has been establishing a long-term agricultural production system, that supports rural people’s socioeconomic development, and the country’s economic development, through increasing production of crop yield.– NNN-MNA
