UN Chief Condemns Weekend Attacks In Yemen, Saudi Arabia

UNITED NATIONS, Mar 9 (NNN-AGENCIES) – UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, condemns two reported attacks, the Saudi Arabia airstrikes in Yemen and the Houthi Yemeni rebels drone and missile hits in Saudi Arabia, a UN spokesman said yesterday.

“It is really quite simple,” said Stephane Dujarric, the chief spokesman for Guterres. “Such actions are detrimental to the mediation efforts, being carried out by our special envoy, Martin Griffiths, who will continue to work with all parties, to advance the political process to reach a negotiated settlement to end the conflict.”

“We urge all parties to abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law,” he said, during a regular press briefing.

The spokesman said, the condemnation was for multiple drone and ballistic missile attacks, reportedly carried out Sunday, against various Saudi Arabian sites by the Houthis, who claimed responsibility. They also call themselves Ansar-Allah.

“We also are concerned about Saudi-led coalition airstrikes, reportedly carried out yesterday (Sunday) on Sana’a and Hodeidah, apparently in response to the initial attacks,” he said.– NNN-AGENCIES
