ISLAMABAD, Mar 8 (NNN-APP) – Two separate attacks at police, in the Pakistani capital Islamabad and its adjacent city, Rawalpindi, left at least two police personnel, including an officer, killed, and two others injured, police and local media said.
Deputy Inspector General of Islamabad police, Afzaal Kausar, said, some unknown gunmen, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire with automatic weapons at a police party in the Sector G-13 area of the capital last night.
A sub-inspector of police and two constables sustained injuries in the attack, said the officer.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital Islamabad, where one of them succumbed to the injuries during treatment, local media reported.
The officer said that, police personnel were on their routine patrolling duty, when they came under attack.
“They tried to stop a motorcycle for a routine search, but the riders opened fire (at) the personnel,” said the police officer, adding that, the area has been cordoned off and search operation is in progress.
Earlier in the day, a police inspector was shot dead by some unknown gunmen, at the Mall Road area of Rawalpindi, according to a statement from the Punjab province police.– NNN-APP
