Local Gov’t Orders Imposition Of Night Curfew In Four Districts Of India’s Punjab To Check COVID-19 Spike

NEW DELHI, Mar 7 (NNN-PTI) – Local government, in the northern Indian state of Punjab, yesterday, decided to impose night curfew in four districts, to tackle a recent spike in COVID-19 cases, officials said.

According to officials, the orders for the imposition of night curfew in Jalandhar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala districts, were issued after a review meeting of Punjab chief secretary and Director General of Police with deputy commissioners, police heads, and health officials of these districts, through a video conferencing.

“The night curfew will remain in place in the districts from 11: 00 p.m. (local time) until 5:00 in the morning,” an official said. “The curfew will be imposed from today (yesterday), until further orders.”

Reports said, there will be relaxation in cases of medical emergency and for workers or staff working in factories, which run on 24-hour shifts.

India’s federal government, yesterday rushed high-level teams to Maharashtra and Punjab, to assist in COVID-19 control and containment measures, in view of the recent spike in cases in these states.– NNN-PTI
