NEW DELHI, Mar 3 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 11,139,516 today, as 14,989 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.
According to the data, the death toll mounted to 157,346 with 98 new deaths.
There are still 170,126 active cases in the country, while 10,812,044 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment. There was an increase of 1,768 active cases during the previous 24 hours.
The number of daily active cases has been on the rise over the past few days.
Phase 2 of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccine drive, began in the country on Monday, with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, taking his first dose of the Covaxin vaccine, manufactured by Bharat Biotech company.
The phase 2 of the vaccination drive would inoculate those above the age of 60 and those over 45 with comorbidities.
India kicked off a nationwide vaccination drive in Jan, and so far more than 15.6 million people, mainly health workers, have been vaccinated across the country.
Meanwhile, 218,403,277 COVID-19 tests were conducted till yesterday, out of which 785,220 tests were conducted yesterday alone, said the latest data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The national capital Delhi, one of the most COVID-19 affected places in the country, has been witnessing a lower number of cases over the past several months as 217 new cases and no deaths were registered in the national capital through Monday.
So far 10,911 people have died in the national capital, due to COVID-19, confirmed Delhi’s health department.– NNN-PTI
