India’s COVID-19 Tally Rises To 11,124,527

NEW DELHI, Mar 2 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 11,124,527 today, as 12,286 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, according to the latest data from the federal health ministry.

The official data shows that the death toll mounted to 157,248, as 91 patients died since yesterday morning.

There are still 168,358 active cases in the country, while 10,798,921 people have been discharged, so far, from hospitals, after medical treatment. There was a decrease of 269 active cases the past 24 hours.

Phase 2 of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccine drive began yesterday. The phase 2 of the vaccination drive would inoculate those above the age of 60 and those over 45 with comorbidities.

Jan 16 was a crucial day in India’s fight against the pandemic, as the nationwide vaccination drive was kicked off during the day. So far, nearly 15 million people, mainly health workers, have been vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the federal government ramped up testing facilities across the country, as more than 217 million tests have been conducted so far.

As many as 217,618,057 tests were conducted till yesterday, out of which 759,283 tests were conducted yesterday alone, according to the latest data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research today.

The national capital, Delhi, which has been one of the most COVID-19 affected places in the country, has been witnessing comparatively a lesser number of cases over the past several months. Only 175 new cases and one death were registered in the national capital through yesterday.

So far, 10,911 people have died in the national capital, confirmed Delhi’s health department.– NNN-PTI
