NEW DELHI, Feb 26 (NNN-PTI) – At least five people were killed and seven others injured, some of them critically, yesterday, in a devastating fire, inside a fireworks factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, officials said.
The incident took place near Sivakasi, in Virudhunagar district, about 539 km south-west of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
Fire tenders are on the spot and the fire has been put under control, said an official at the disaster management office in Virudhunagar.
Officials said the injured have been sent to hospital.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and authorities have ordered an investigation into the incident, which comes two weeks, after 19 people were killed, when an explosion took place in a fireworks factory in the district.– NNN-PTI
