WASHINGTON, Feb 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) – At least 20 people died, in a series of winter storms across the United States over the past few days, local media reported today.
As of late yesterday, about 115 million people were in the path of the next storm, all the way from south-western Texas to north-eastern Massachusetts, the weather service said.
In Texas, more than three million people remained without power, as of yesterday afternoon. A woman and three children died early yesterday in a house fire, trying to keep warm in the city of Sugar Land.
In North Carolina, at least three people were killed and 10 others injured, after a tornado ripped through a seaside town, late Monday night, reported USA Today.
In southern Tennessee, a 10-year-old boy died, after falling into an ice-covered pond on Sunday, during a winter storm, local authorities said.
Other death causes included car crashes and carbon monoxide poisoning.
The brutal weather has also forced a number of COVID-19 vaccination sites to close, and caused delays in vaccine shipments and deliveries across the country.
Another winter storm, with snow and ice, is expected to hit parts of the South and Midwest today, before slamming into the Mid-Atlantic and North-east tomorrow, the weather service said.– NNN-AGENCIES
