Evacuation under way at Russian coal mine after collapse

MOSCOW, Feb 14 (NNN-TASS) – A total of 98 workers are being evacuated
after a cave-in in a coalmine in Russia’s Siberian coal-rich region of
Kuzbass, the press service of the Russian emergencies ministry told TASS on
Sunday.

Rescuers were alerted about the incident at about 3:10 local time on Sunday
(23:10 Moscow time on Saturday).

“A total of 98 people were in the mine at the time of the incident. People
are being taken to the surface,” the press service said.

Later, the ministry’s press service said a total of 83 people have already
been evacuated safely, but the evacuation continues.

A rescue source told TASS the incident occurred at the Yubileinaya mine in
the Kemerovo Region city of Novokuznetsk.

Shortly after, an emergencies source told TASS that, “according to
preliminary information, one person died.” This information has not yet been officially confirmed. — NNN-TASS
