KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Mildef International Technologies Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian company providing automotive services for the defence industry in the country, developed a four-wheel-drive (4×4) high mobility armoured vehicle.
The company said the development of the vehicle, currently referred to as Mildef HMAV 4×4, was an initiative to resolve the country’s issue, in terms of after-sale support within the army, due to over-reliance on international suppliers.
“After years of intensive work, we are honoured to say that we have successfully built two prototype units and they are ready for our trials,” Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Nizam Kasa, said in a statement.
He said, the company had been assisted by Malaysian defence agency Science and Technology Research Institute for Defence (STRIDe) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), to help validate the vehicle’s design and development, according to military standard.
Besides supplying to the Malaysian market, Mildef plans to penetrate the ASEAN market, before exploring opportunities to export the vehicle to other regions. According to the company, its armoured vehicle is based on a modular platform that can be customised according to the specifications of each country.
The company has contracted United States (US) machinery and equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar, to provide the engine, which it described as “the most robust, technologically advanced and ruggedised earthmoving engine available in the market.”– NNN-BERNAMA
