KAMPALA, Feb 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Uganda army spokesperson has confirmed that one pilot died from the mishap involving a jet ranger on Thursday during a flight training session.

The deceased was identified as Captain Caroline Busingye. She was involved in the incident along with another trainee, whose status has not been disclosed.

“It is with sadness that we announce the passing on of Capt Caroline Busingye after she was involved in a plane crush today Afternoon in Entebbe. We Commiserate with the family of the late and the UPDF Airforce fraternity during this very difficult moment,” UPDF spokesperson, Brig-Gen Byekwaso tweeted.

The development comes just days after the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) said that it had launched investigations into circumstances under which its helicopter crashed in southern Somalia injuring four Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) soldiers last week.

The AU mission said the helicopter was on a mission to support its troops in Lower Shabelle region when it crashed soon after take-off in Balidogle on Feb 5. — NNN-AGENCIES
