ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (NNN-APP) – Four terrorists and four soldiers were killed, during a clash between security forces and militants, in Pakistan’s north-western South Waziristan district, a military statement said, this morning.
The terrorists raided the security forces’ post in the district, killing the soldiers late last night, the army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, in the statement.
Four militants were killed in a prompt response by the troops, the statement said. The identities of the killed militants or the group which carried out the attack were not revealed by the army.
Located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, South Waziristan used to be a hotbed of militancy a few years ago, but the security forces have successfully flushed out the terrorists from the area, in separate high-profiled armed offensives.
Though the area has been purged from the militancy to a great extent, sporadic attacks continue in the area, by the fleeing militants, who come back to the area to launch attacks at security personnel, whenever they find a chance to breach the security of the highly guarded area.
Last month, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the district. During an intense exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed and one injured and arrested, according to the ISPR.– NNN-APP
