Cross-Border Attack Leaves Minor Killed, Seven Injured In NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (NNN-APP) – A five-year-old child was killed and seven other children were injured, in a cross-border attack from Afghanistan into Pakistani territory yesterday, an army statement said.

The incident happened at 2:50 p.m. local time (9:50 a.m. GMT), when terrorists fired five rockets from inside Afghanistan, into Bajaur district in Pakistan’s north-west Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations said, in the statement.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where a senior military official visited them to ask after their health, and said, the troops are conducting a retaliatory attack at the posts of the militants.

Cross-border attack from Afghanistan often happens in Pakistan, indicating a strong presence of militants in the border areas.

The army did not offer more details as to which group was involved in the rockets’ firing, but the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), routinely claims attacks on Pakistani border posts.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said, its stance on the threats posed to Pakistan and the region by groups like the TTP had been vindicated by a United Nations report.

The 27th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, released earlier this month said, the TTP was reported to have overseen a reunification of splinter groups, that took place in Afghanistan and was moderated by al-Qaeda, which was expected to increase the threat to Afghanistan, Pakistan and the region.– NNN-APP
