Six Killed, 11 Injured In Vehicle Collision In India’s Uttar Pradesh

NEW DELHI, Feb 9 (NNN-PTI) – Six people were killed and 11 others injured, with some of them in critical condition, after a passenger vehicle collided head-on with a truck today, in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The accident took place in Jaunpur district, about 228 km south-east of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. A police official posted in Jaunpur said, “The injured have been removed to the nearest hospital.”

The police said, the vehicle carrying passengers was returning from the adjacent Varanasi district, where they had gone to cremate a relative.

According to federal road transport and highways minister, Nitin Gadkari, about 415 people die due to road accidents, per day.

Deadly road accidents are common in India, often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.– NNN-PTI
