MANILA, Feb 8 (NNN-PNA) – An off-shore earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7, jolted Davao Oriental, 121 km SE of Pondaguitan, Philippines, at 00:00:43 GMT on Monday (today), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PIVS), said.
The institute said, the quake, which struck at 8:00 a.m. local time, hit at a depth of 44 km, about 211 km south-east of Governor Generoso town, in Davao Oriental province.
The epicentre, with a depth of 61.26 km, was initially determined to be at 5.7032 degrees north latitude, and 127.0586 degrees east longitude.
The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, is not expected to cause damage and aftershocks, the institute said.
