BEIRUT, Feb 6 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanon’s per capita income dropped by 69 percent from 8,000 U.S. dollars in 2018, to 2,500 dollars in 2020, MTV TV channel reported yesterday.
The average monthly salary in Lebanon went down from 900 U.S. dollars in 2018, to fewer than 200 dollars in 2020.
Lebanon’s shortage in U.S. dollar prompted an increased demand for the dollar, which in turn resulted in the rise in its price and the weakening of the Lebanese pound.
Employees have lost about 80 percent of their salaries’ value, following the weakening of the local currency, as most people in Lebanon are paid in Lebanese pound.– NNN-NNA
