NEW DELHI, Feb 6 (NNN-PTI) – India’s federal health ministry said, 7,580 cases of adverse reactions had been observed, following COVID-19 vaccination, till Jan 31.
The information was given by federal Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, in the lower house of the Indian parliament, locally called Lok Sabha. The minister said, Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) are monitored through a well-structured and robust AEFI surveillance.
“A total of 7,580 AEFIs i.e., 0.2 percent cases have been reported, out of the total number vaccinated till Jan 31, 2021, under COVID-19 vaccination roll-out across the country,” Vardhan said.
“Most of these are minor AEFIs like anxiety, vertigo, giddiness, dizziness, fever, pain, rashes, and headache, which are self-limiting, and all the people have recovered.”
Vardhan said, a National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 has been established, which provides guidance on all aspects of COVID-19 vaccination.
India began the inoculation drive against COVID-19 on Jan 16. At present healthcare and frontline workers are being vaccinated.
During the initial phase, around 30 million healthcare and frontline workers will be vaccinated, followed by those above 50 years of age and the under-50 population groups, with co-morbidities numbering around 270 million.– NNN-PTI
