Myanmar Denies Banknotes Demonetisation Rumours

YANGON, Feb 4 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar’s State Administration Council, announced yesterday that, citizens can still continue to use the 5,000 and 10,000 kyat notes, legally.

The council said, rumours and fake news spread in social media, about the demonetisation of the 5,000 and 10,000 kyat notes.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Myanmar yesterday announced that, citizens can continue to use the notes, and the banking services without worries, as directive has been given to the banks, to operate banking services as usual. The Central Bank of Myanmar placed emphasis on stabilising the monetary system, regarding the rumours.

Myanmar government leaders and other senior officials of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) were detained by the military in the early hours of Monday.

The President’s Office later declared a one-year state of emergency and the state power handed over to the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, according to a statement from the military.– NNN-MNA
